Parental Tips on Avoiding Child Obesity

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

Whenever we see kids that are bubbly, we used to like them wherein our typical expression is “you are sooo cute”. However, unknowingly, we are not helping them to improve their health since we are encouraging them to be like that. The problem is most of these cute kids are already overweight or worst obese.

According to the data of the World Health Organization (WHO) there are about 22 million obese children whose age is below five. That is fact and that fact is really alarming since these are only children but their risks of acquiring serious diseases as they grow older are already high. Having said that, many health experts have already classified obesity as one of the many medical conditions that has widespread effects on children and adolescents throughout the United States.

Therefore, it is better if the parents of these children will be oriented on how to avoid child obesity. Of course the parents are the one that should be taught first since they are the one who is directly responsible on their children. Anyway, avoiding child obesity will be a great favor for these children since their health condition will improve are well as their physical attributes.

Then, what should the parents do to avoid this dreadful problem? To answer that, take a look on the list that I have provided for you.

1) Diet. Don’t spoil your child. Give them the “right” foods that they need as they grow up. Start giving them healthy foods at an early age since if they are not aware of the junk foods then they won’t crave for it. Also, if possible, don’t store sweets in your food cabinet. Chocolates, candies, cookies and others should be kept on a different location where your child can have it. It is best if you are not going to buy such foods. Buy fruits instead.

2) Sports. Instead of letting your child to go online to play NBA Live, why don’t you let him play basketball outside? Engaging your child into sports will be helpful in burning those excess fats. In addition, you can limit their computer playtime and watching TV time and accompany them on they park or playground.

3) Water. Instead of making concentrated juices or opening a can of soda, why don’t you give your child a glass of water? Drinking water has a lot of benefits and your child should know that so that he can appreciate why it is important to drink water. Thus, avoid buying sodas. Instead, buy fruits and prepare a fruit juice or fruit shake.

Now that you know the three basic steps on avoiding child obesity, then the power is yours. You are the one who can make it happen since your child can’t do it alone. It is better if you will adopt those steps to so that you can lead by example.

Female Hair Loss Oh No Please Lord Anything But That

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

It seems as if we women are always having some kind of issue with hair.  We are either trying to shave it off, as in the case of legs, underarms, and private areas, or we are getting it ripped out by the roots by applying hot wax and special paper and yanking really hard on it.  Otherwise, we are trying to change the color from brown to red or red to blonde, or gray to anything else – in the case of some older women, even blue is preferable to gray.   We sometimes have bad hair days that make our whole world seem crappy, and our boyfriends and husbands are likely to get chewed out if they don’t notice a new haircut.  It is true, there are lots of frivolous issues with our hair, but female hair loss is another thing entirely.

While we are spending inordinate amounts of time and money to get rid of hair everywhere else, if we even think we might be having female hair loss from the hair on our heads, we freak out.  We might even be holding a razor to our legs in one hand, and rubbing Rogaine into our scalps with the other.  Hair, hair everywhere, and not a strand where it belongs.

There are several reasons why hair loss, female or male, can occur.  Even though a lot of people suspect that there is nothing to be done about it or that it is purely hereditary, that is not necessarily the case.  Of course, everything is genetic to some degree, but lifestyle makes a difference, too.  Nature versus nurture has been a debate for a long time.  When it comes to hair, you need to nurture yourself and the hair on your head, regardless of what nature gave you.

Female hair loss can result from:

Hormonal issues

Stress

Depression medication’s side effects

Vitamin deficiencies

Oral contraceptive use

Other chemical contraceptive use

Certain diseases, illnesses, and conditions

Excessive androgen in the system

Treating female hair loss can be difficult.  Most physicians prefer not to use medicines that are taken and affect the whole body unless they are absolutely certain that androgen is the issue causing the hair loss.  If androgen is the primary concern, however, there are treatments available from your doctor.

Minoxidil 2% topical treatment is available for women, also.  Minoxidil began its life as a treatment for high blood pressure, but hair growth was a troublesome side effect.  A new miracle hair-growth medicine was born, and billions of dollars have been spent on it ever since.   Talk about luck.  That was one lucky scientist – he or she was trying to come up with yet another hypertension drug – there are probably dozens or hundreds already – and instead created the first and only FDA-approved male and female hair loss treatment.

There are other medications that are not specifically approved for female hair loss treatment, as well, but are approved by the FDA for other conditions, and some doctors prescribe them “off label” for male or female hair loss complaints.  You can talk to your physician about those.

Hair loss for a female can be quite worrisome and really have a negative effect, but ladies, if your hair is thinning, know that you are not alone in your hair battles.  We all have them, in some fashion or another, and just think about this:  You may be losing your hair, but some women actually have excess hair – even on their faces!  If it’s not one female hair thing, it’s another.

Discover The Truth About Lower Back Pain Causes

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

When most people think of lower back pain causes, they immediately think of injuries caused by lifting items improperly or sitting at a desk for an extended period of time.  Those things certainly cause the majority of the lower back pain that doctors treat every day.  However, they aren’t the only causes of lower back pain.

One of the lower back pain causes that is often overlooked is a kidney infection.  Obviously, not all lower back pain will be caused by a kidney infection but it should definitely be kept in mind, especially if a person doesn’t recall injuring their back in any way, shape, or form recently.  Kidney infections are often accompanied by a fever.  Most often, the fever can spike rather high.  Kidney infections are a serious emergency and need to be treated right away.  If left untreated, permanent kidney damage can result.

Another potential lower back pain cause is having a spine that isn’t aligned properly.  Proper alignment of the spine is crucial not for just lower back health but body health in general.  Pinched nerves and reduced blood flow can result if a person’s spine is even the tiniest bit out of alignment.

Thankfully, a misaligned spine is easy to fix.  A trip to the chiropractor’s is usually all that’s needed to get everything straight again.  If the problem is particularly bad or been left untreated for a long time, multiple trips might be needed to get everything perfectly in alignment again.  Fortunately, most chiropractors’ appointments are inexpensive.  Even if you don’t have insurance or your insurance doesn’t cover a chiropractor, you should still be able to afford the appointments you’ll need.

A pinched nerve is also one of the lower back pain causes.  Pinched nerves can be extremely painful, depending on where the nerve is pinched at.  You can get a shooting pain from a pinched nerve when you move certain ways.  Occasionally, the pain can even feel like a constant stabbing pain.  Either way, a pinched nerve will need to be diagnosed and treated by a doctor.

Obviously, the most common lower back pain causes are muscle injuries of one sort or another.  Muscle injuries tend to be throbbing in nature while nerve injuries feel like stabbing, shooting pains.  Since muscle injuries to the lower back are fairly common, it’s easy to find products you can purchase over the counter to help ease the aches and pains you may be feeling.  Medications, heat wraps, and ice are commonly prescribed.

Exercise and stretching can help heal an injured lower back quickly and prevent injuries from happening in the future.

Lower back pain doesn’t need to be a part of life.  It can be avoided all together in most instances.  All you need to do is listen to what your body is telling you, learn proper lifting techniques, and become familiar with the various lower back pain causes.  Being educated about them will help prevent injuries in the future.

Men Ask Is There Hope For A Prostate Cancer New Treatment

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

On average approxmately 186,320 men, who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer each year; and 28,660 with advanced prostate cancer, projected to die during the year, are asking their Doctor is there hope for a prostate cancer new treatment. This article will discuss the possibility of new prostate cancer treatment as well as proven and tried treatments.

This article is not intended as medical advice, nor should it be taken as medical advice. It is for informational purposes only. As always with a physical illness you should consult your personal physician right away. Please read on for more information.

Those astonishing figures above, 186,320 new cases of prostate cancer and 28,660 deaths during a year, come form the NIH (National Cancer Institute). For your information you can verify these figures on line using the following URL:

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/types/prostate. All you have to do is copy and paste the above link into your browser and it will take you straight too the page. Please continue reading.

One of the newest drugs pending approval by the FDA is referred to as Provenge. This drug has been developed by a company called Dendreon. Provenge is believed to have fewer side effects than the other toxic drugs currently approved for use in advanced cases of prostate malignancy. The side effects for Provenge are said to be similar to a case of flu and generally cease after 2 or 3 days. Some of the other toxic drugs side effects are so bad they may even result in death in as many as 1% to 2% of the patients administered the drug.

Provenge has been shown in clinical trials, conducted by Dendreon, to extend life up to as much as 4 1/2 months for those with little hope. However, because of new information required by the FDA this drug may not see approval until the year 2010. Because of the controversy surrounding the FDA’s decision on not approving the drug in 2007, lawsuits have been filed in Federal Court. The details about this controversy are well beyond the scope of this article. Therefore the discussion on other treatments will be continued.

Thanks to recent technology advancements one of the proven therapies, Cryotherapy, has taken on new life and new hope. This therapy is using sub zero temperatures to freeze the prostate tumor or tumors. However, it has been most effective during the early stages of prostate cancer.

It is usually used where the cancer is localized within the prostate. Because it is localized the Doctors are able to treat the tumors with a new needle called a cryoneedle. What is really good news is the preciseness of the treatment.

Thanks to transrectal ultrasound and switching to helium gases and argon, instead of liquid nitrogen, the treatment is more effective than in the past. In addition since it is a minor invasive procedure there is little loss of blood and most patients will get to go home at the end of the day. Those patients with other medical problems may be kept overnight to ensure there are not complications caused by the Cryotherapy.

In conclusion all prostate cancer new treatment should be discussed with your personal Doctor. In fact when it comes to a new treatment of any kind, regardless if it’s for prostate cancer or any other illness, you should tell your Doctor you would like to have a 2nd opinion.

Tips About Prostate Cancer Hormone Therapy

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

What is the truth about prostate cancer hormone therapy? As a man between the age of 50 and 100 plus you may well have to ask yourself that question? Because the fact is if you live in North America you may be the 1 out of 6 men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

These tips will give you some free information and a question or two to ask your doctor if it should happen to you.

This article is not intended as medical advice, nor should it be taken as medical advice. It is for informational purposes only. As always with a physical illness you should consult your personal physician right away. Please read on for more information.

It is important for you to understand what hormonal therapy is and what it can do. The primary purpose of course is to treat prostate cancer. It does this by blocking androgens (male hormones). One such hormone is testosterone and it is one of the culprits which feed the cancer and causes the prostrate cancer to grow.

Normally what can happen when the hormonal treatment works is it will cause the tumors to shrink and slow down the spread of the malignancy. One of the questions you need to ask your doctor is to fully explain what prostate cancer hormonal therapy is and what it can do for you. More than likely he will tell you there is more than one option for the hormonal treatment.

One of the primary types of hormonal treatment is the removal of the testacies. The testes produce more than 95% of the male's testosterone. Ironically, because the testes produce the majority of the testosterone, this treatment is classified, by the medical professionals, as hormonal treatment instead of a surgical operation.

However, the formal name of this procedure is called Orchidectomy (you know it as surgical castration). Your doctor will explain the operating team will remove your testicles through a small incision in your scrotum. The next question you need to ask the doctor is "What are the side effects of this type of hormonal therapy?"

Unfortunately your medical practitioner will explain, your natural desire for sex will be gone and you will be impotent. Also you may well experience hot flashes as this is a very common side effect of sexual castration.

However don’t give up on hormonal therapy yet. You will find when talking to your physicians there are other options or rather a different type of hormonal treatment. This treatment is called Medical Castration.

This treatment will use injections of LHRH Agonists which will turn off production of the male hormones in the testes. The good news about this procedure is it is can be effective without the surgical removal of the testicles. However, it will also reduce your sexual drive, cause impotence and the dreaded hot flashes.

But it is believed by many medical professionals the Medical Castration treatment may be reversed. This is done by discontinuing the injections. Once that has occurred the body will start producing testosterone again. Depending on what your Doctor tells you this may be a good thing or not. Especially since the testosterone is what feeds the cancer and speeds up the spread of the malignancy.

As you have read there are many things you need to talk to your Doctor about. You need a full explanation which type of prostate cancer hormonal treatment will be best for you. Once you have all the information then you will be able to make an informed decision.

Swim to a Healthy You

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

During those warm days, going to the gym becomes even more of a chore. It’s so hot outside and the idea of sweating it out some more is excruciating. Right now, the best way to get some exercise is to swim. It’s the ideal way to tone those muscles without feeling all the stress. Swimming builds endurance, increases muscle strength, and enhances your cardiovascular fitness as well. Running, jogging, and walking are just as effective, but the continuous pressure you put on your knees and ankles can also be damaging, especially when you don’t wear the right kind of shoes. You are weightless in the water, and because of that, you take some impact off of your body.

You don’t need to be an athlete to exercise in the water. Of course it helps when you know how to do the right kind of strokes. Nonetheless, a simple dog paddle can already get your heart rate going. Aside from that, swimming is the perfect way of warming up while cooling down at the same time. As you increase the intensity of your strokes, you stimulate the muscle activity within your body. This also can prepare you for a land-based workout routine. Just swim a few laps. For a great cool down activity, do the laps in a leisurely pace. This allows you to let blood travel down your muscles so they can recover from the pressure you placed on them. Glide steadily up and down the length of the pool and make sure to breathe in through your mouth and out your nose.

Aside from yoga and Pilates, swimming is not just good for your body, it’s also great for the mind. Of course, if you want to lose weight faster, you can start by stretching and walking at a brisk pace before you dip in the pool. You will still have to work your body because you will have to exert a lot of effort. To strengthen your heart and lungs, this is the best activity you can do. Soon, you’ll notice that you won’t experience as much muscle strain. Let your mind focus on each stroke, and soon you’ll see that you relax in the process. When you get used to the rhythm, you can even allow your mind to wander and think about pleasant things as you swim from end to end.

Everyone can benefit from swimming. Water acts as the resistant force that allows your muscles to become stronger with time. Plus, this is one thing you can get into during those extra warm days. Pretty soon, you may even find yourself addicted to the routine. Don’t just limit your options to what you can do on land. Interests will vary from person to person, and you could be the water enthusiast. Try it and see if this is something you can do to help build your bones and muscles. Just get yourself a nice suit, bring goggles, and swim to your heart’s content. It’s certainly a worthwhile activity!

Get A Big Bank Account – Not A Big Belly

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

There was a time in the history of men that being fat was considered healthy. Before, people associated the body’s size to being rich and powerful. If you were fat, it only meant that you had the money to buy all the foods you want and you are not starving. Though, this principle is still being practiced by some groups in Africa, other groups in the world have already changed their views of regarding that concept of being fat.

The changed of views of many people was due to the fact that many illnesses have been associated with being fat and studies show that they are preventable if the person is living on a healthy lifestyle. Even though many are aware of these studies, yet there are still a lot who enjoys eating and drinking foods that are not good to the health. And those foods that cannot be processed by the body are the one causing the trouble.

Now being fat is not just being big anymore. There are terms that properly correspond to how big a person is. One term is overweight. An overweight person is either normal or obese. His or her body mass index (BMI) is 27.3% or greater for women and 27.8% or greater for men. On the other hand, an obese person has so much excessive fats on the body and this BMI is already 30% or greater. If you are wondering whether you are already an obese or overweight, you may get your BMI by dividing your body mass (in terms of KG) to the squared of your height (in terms of meters).

Though BMI is just one of the many tools in determining if a person is obese or nor not, many still rely on this since it is easier to measure. But many people are already aware of the detrimental effects of being fat. Still many people don’t seem to give the matter enough thought. This was shown on the recent report from the World Health Organization that there are more than 1 billion people who are overweight wherein more than 300,000 of them are already obese. This is really alarming since about 1/6 of the population of the Earth are very prone to diseases which can be prevented by being healthy.

Studies also show that obesity in today’s time was cause by the highly urbanized setting of most places. Many don’t have enough time to cook and prepare the right foods due to work and other social activities of man. Thus, more and more are relying on easy-prepare foods and fast-food foods which are unhealthy.  In addition, the work nowadays is more on paper works or desk work. Thus, the physical activities of men are being reduced as well. These factors, globalization, modernization, and urbanization are the key factors that cause the widespread epidemic of obesity.

Those studies should be a wake-up call for most of us that even though we are striving to have a highly urbanized civilization, we should never forget our health. Our health should always be a priority and should not be neglected since even though we have transformed the world into a modernized one, if we can’t see it due to health reasons, it is useless.

All You Have To Do Is DEW

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

It is always nice to see your college friends once in a while. Seeing them allows you to catch up with what is happening with your mates and learn how their lives are going. Those reasons are just a few of the many reasons why you want to keep in touch with your friends. For me, I got curious when I heard that one of my very chubby college friends had lost a lot of weight and was now doing some modeling work. I was excited to learn that she was in town and I decided to get in touch with her. In my mind, it’s the best opportunity to get her secrets, after all, I would also like to lose some weight and look good.

Then, the day has come. We have met, chat and have some dinner. Of course, we have talked about how she had shed all those pounds and there I was listening very eagerly.  She told me that the key to success in physical fitness can be summarized into a three-letter word –DEW. Yes, dew as in the water we see in a morning, which symbolizes hope as well.

She also told me that aside from the DEW, all the other things are already its derivative. And DEW remains the most important factor. Well, I keep on saying DEW, but what is DEW anyway? DEW stands for Diet, Exercise, and Will. Pretty good acronym isn’t it? Well, I will share with you what my friend has taught me.

Diet.  This is very essential in losing those excess fats. According to her, diet means eating the right foods at the right time and not starving yourself. She stated that I have to watch out for my food intake. As much as possible, she advised to eat 6 small meals a day wherein the breakfast is the most important meal of the day. She also said to eat foods that are high in fiber as well as green foods since they are healthier. Meats are OK but should be eaten in moderation.

Exercise. Well, almost everybody knows that exercise really helps in getting the body you want and staying healthy. However, she said that I need not to enroll myself on any fitness centers or to get a personal trainer to be healthy (though sometimes it helps). She said there are some activities that will be very helpful in trimming the fats like engaging into sports, doing household chores or even playing the popular Wii. The choice really depends on the person. The most important thing is to have at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. She also did mention that, the 30-minute exercise can be spread out into 5 or 10 minutes.

Will. This aspect, she believes, is the most important among the three. Why? Because almost all of us are already aware that diet and exercise are great tools in losing weight. However, not all of us have the will to start doing it.

Having heard all of those things, I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet up with my old friend again. It was great catching up and it was wonderful to learn her secret to getting in shape. I am now doing those tips and I am hoping to be in shape soon.

Tips About Hip And Lower Back Pain

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

Hip and lower back pain is a common complaint as people get older.  As people get older, their joints begin to wear out from years of hard use.  Once the joints start to wear out, it can cause pain.  Sometimes the pain can be so severe it can literally be crippling.  Depression can set it when someone is unable to do the things they enjoyed doing when they were younger.  Depression, coupled with hip and lower back pain, can cause a decreased quality of life and ultimately rob many people of what is supposed to their golden years.

Fortunately, hip and lower back pain are things that can be managed and controlled.  By limiting the amount of pain, you can increase your quality of life.  You can go out and do all the things you love doing and otherwise enjoy the golden years of your life.

One of the ways someone can help ease hip and lower back pain is to stay active.  If you get up and move around, you can help prevent your joints from stiffening up.  A lot of hip and lower back pain can be caused simply by just sitting around, doing nothing.  By getting involved in hobbies or activities you enjoy, you can keep moving, keep your mind sharp, and stay happy.

Another simple thing that can be done to help with hip and lower back pain is exercise.  No or low impact exercises are perfect for everyone to take part in.  No and low impact exercises allow a person to get the exercise they need without putting a strain on their body.  As we all know, strains can lead to further injuries down the road.  No and low impact exercises will keep you from overdoing it.

When you exercise, it’s important to listen to what your body is telling you.  If you feel any pain at all, immediately stop what you’re doing.  Pain is your body’s way of saying something is wrong.  If you are exercising at a gym, have access to a physical trainer, doctor, or physical therapist, tell them about the pain you just experienced.

Carefully show them what you just did that caused the pain, being certain to stop if you feel the pain again.  Have them demonstrate to you the proper way to do the exercise, just in case it was improper technique that caused the original pain.  Whenever you do an exercise, be certain to use proper form and technique each time to avoid injuries.

Aspirin is a great medication to take if you are having a little bit of pain.  Aspirin can reduce any muscle swelling that might be causing the problem in your hips and lower back.  Before taking any medication, make sure it’s compatible with other medications you’re on.  Obviously, if you’re allergic or advised not to take it for some reason, don’t take it.

If feel as though you may be developing rheumatoid arthritis, you should know some of the rheumatoid arthritis early symptoms so that you can be aware of them. Rheumatoid arthritis is when the body’s immune system starts attacking its own tissues. This can cause joint inflammation, tissue inflammation around the joints and some organs may even be affected. This disease causes the sufferer lots of pain, and some severe cases can even disable the sufferer. By being aware of early symptoms, proper care can be taken so that the disease can be brought under control early on.

Early Symptoms

Some rheumatoid arthritis early symptoms can include fatigue and a general feeling of malaise. The person may experience numbness in the feet and there can even be sharp pains in the various parts of the body. Joint pain is another tell tale sign of rheumatoid arthritis early symptoms. These include painful, swollen, tender and stiff joints. Usually the same joints on the both sides of the body are affected. So if the pain is symmetrical, these could be early symptoms of the disease.

There can also be bumps or nodules that range from the size of a pea to a mothball that develop over various pressure points in the body such as the elbows, knuckles, spine and even the lower leg bones. These nodules usually occur in about one-third of people who have rheumatoid arthritis.

Other Symptoms

The other rheumatoid arthritis early symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, mild fever as well as numbness and tingling in the hands. It should be noted that some of these symptoms can be similar to symptoms of other health conditions.

That’s why it’s essential for you to see your doctor should you ever think that you’re suffering from any of these early warning signs. It could be nothing, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. These symptoms are your body’s way of warning you that something’s not right. By ignoring them, you’re only hurting yourself more.

Your Doctor

Making an appointment with your doctor is the best thing you can do if you find that you may be suffering from rheumatoid arthritis early symptoms. That’s because any of these symptoms, if they should get worse, can bring the pain and disability that most rheumatoid arthritis sufferers know all too well. By getting a handle on the disease early, your doctor can prescribe certain medications so that the disease can be brought under control. This can improve your quality of life so that the disease isn’t so debilitating.

However, it should be noted that there are also natural cures for rheumatoid arthritis. So if you begin to feel any of these rheumatoid arthritis early symptoms, try some natural cures like cutting foods originating from animals from your diet while including more omega-3 fatty acids and cold water fish at the same time. This can help alleviate much of the pain, and many of the symptoms, of rheumatoid arthritis, thus bringing you a better quality of life.

Diet For Rheumatoid Arthritis

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

Is there a diet for rheumatoid arthritis that will reduce the effects of inflammation? Many people favor the argument that if you change your diet for the better, you can decrease the inflammation that is caused by rheumatoid arthritis. There are many valid points to this argument. Anyone who changed their diet for the better is bound to see positive results with their body. Rheumatoid arthritis is no exception.

Eating Right

Eating the things that are good for you makes your body function properly. Although you may not be able to reverse the damage that bad eating or obesity has caused, you may be able to slow down most of the negative things that are damaging it. A proper diet can work magic.

Technically, there isn’t a formal diet for rheumatoid arthritis, however, the things that are recommended for the people that suffer from this illness is no different from any other diet that is considered healthy. It would seem logical that a healthy diet would have this effect no matter what the circumstances. But luckily there aren’t any guarded secrets when it comes to the ingredients in this particular diet. They are basically the things that everyone should be eating in order to be healthy and live a long life.

Meats

Meats are protein and your body needs protein to survive. However, the types of meats that you should stay away from if you have rheumatoid arthritis are those that are high in saturated fat. Bacon and steak should not be a daily part of a diet for rheumatoid arthritis. These are very high in saturated fats. So it would be safe to say that you can eat meat if you are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, but those with saturated fat will flare up your inflammation.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

It appears that these acids can decrease the effects of inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis. A diet rich in walnuts, salmon, soybean products, flaxseed and tuna will greatly help to reduce the flare ups that are associated with this illness. Your diet for rheumatoid arthritis should be filled with omega-3 fatty acids.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are good for your body because they have properties that fight illnesses. In addition, they are filled with vitamin C and vitamin E which are antioxidants. These vitamins can help to build up your immune system. Fruits and vegetables should be a huge part of your daily diet if you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis.

So as you can see, as a sufferer of rheumatoid arthritis, you don't have to do anything extraordinary in order to reduce the effects of your inflammation. A good healthy diet will start you on your way. Make a commitment to eat healthy things on a daily basis and you should slowly start to see some very welcomed changes.

If you eat a healthy diet, it should benefit you in two different ways. First, you will help to control the negative aspects of your illness. Eat the right things and you will decrease your flare ups. Second, you should also see a decrease in your weight. This will ultimately decrease your flare ups because there will be less weight on your joints. All in all, a diet for rheumatoid arthritis is a perfect way to produce positive results.

Junior rheumatoid arthritis is known by a few names. These are junior rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis or even juvenile idiopathic arthritis. It is characterized by a persistent arthritic condition being present in a child aged 16 or younger. Arthritis affects approximately 1 in every 1000 children and can affect them for any length of time from months to years.

Signs and Symptoms of Junior Rheumatoid Arthritis

Junior rheumatoid arthritis is generally classified into 3 forms, essentially by how the arthritis starts affecting the patient. They are pauciarticular, where four or less joints are affected, polyarticular; where more than four joints are affected, and systemic-onset, where there are inflamed joints, a rash and high fevers.

Other symptoms can include lethargy and poor appetite, if a knee or leg is affected, the child may be limping. There is possibly going to be swelling too. Common joints affected are knees, ankles, wrists and any of the smaller joints in the hands and feet.. Pain is a common and important symptom, though it is likely a sufferer will also endure morning stiffness which appears to clear up later in the day.

Causes of Junior Rheumatoid Arthritis

Although the cause of junior rheumatoid arthritis is unknown, there is a belief that it is an auto-immune disease. This means that the body starts attacking healthy tissue for no apparent reason. There are a few factors that have been discovered in regards to junior rheumatoid arthritis. There may be an element of genetic predisposition, females have been found to develop it more often than males. It can be triggered by trauma or a virus. Psychological stress may be a factor in worsening the symptoms.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Junior Rheumatoid Arthritis

Children often suffer from pains, be it joint pain or growing pains. Diagnosing junior rheumatoid arthritis can be difficult but doctors will carry out a variety of tests in order to do so. Blood tests and x-rays are the most common form of testing with MRIs also used to diagnose the condition. Doctors may also take fluid from the joint to analyze it in order to confirm the diagnosis. This will help to eliminate other causes of the pain.

Treatment options for junior rheumatoid arthritis are quite varied and can involve a number of specialists. Physical therapy is essential as it will help to keep the patient moving and assist them in keeping life as normal as possible. Pain management strategies will also be essential as the condition in itself can be very painful and may inhibit the child from wanting to lead a normal life.

Medications will probably be prescribed to treat the junior rheumatoid arthritis. These will range from non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications to medications that suppress joint inflammation. Corticosteroid injections may also be helpful in minimizing the effects of the symptoms. New medications are being developed to assist in the treatment of this chronic condition. Two small studies found that increasing the consumption of omega-3 fatty acids may help.

Getting regular exercise is essential to children suffering from junior rheumatoid arthritis. Exercise strengthens muscles and increases joint flexibility. Physical therapists would be able to assist in recommending the best exercises to do to improve the effects of the condition.

Proven Diet Techniques Prevent And Treat Yeast Infections

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

What Role Does Food Play In My Yeast Infection?

You may be puzzled by the connection between yeast infections and food. Simply put, what goes into your body must come out. If you eat a lot of sugary foods, the excess sugar will exit through the urine. Yeast, a normally beneficent fungus, can explode when fed a lot of sugar. Although everyone has some yeast, it must be kept in check. Once the yeast fungus is allowed to grow unhindered, it will most likely cause a yeast infection.

What Foods Should I Avoid?

Any foods that “feed” the yeast should be cut out of your diet. This means you should not eat any sweets; avoid the sweeteners used in most prepackaged foods as well as fruit. All grains are off-limits if you are following a strict version of this idea, even the whole grains we usually consider healthy. White bread, pies, pastas, tortillas, and sourdough are only some of the bread items you may have to do without. Do not eat anything with yeast in it. Mushrooms carry yeast, so avoid them.

Do not indulge in foods based on dairy. Cheese, milk, and flavored yogurt should be on your “don’t eat” list. It is best to drink only water; you should definitely avoid alcoholic beverages, coffee, fruit juices (for the sugar content), and carbonated drinks. You should not eat sauerkraut because of its high amounts of vinegar, and all tomato sauces are best avoided. Do not eat anything that is high in vinegar. Avoid legumes, such as beans, and potatoes; these starchy foods turn into more sugar, which will only feed the yeast infection.

Is There Anything Left to Eat?

Now that the restrictions are out of the way, let’s look at some of the foods that can help your yeast infection go away for good. Most dark green vegetables are good for you and can be eaten as you fight the yeast infection. Green beans, spinach, arugula, and brussel sprouts can all be enjoyed safely.

Garlic actually fights back against the yeast infection. You can eat it raw, incorporate it into a recipe, or even use it as a suppository. If it is placed in the vagina, it can act as a natural yeast-killer. Seaweed also keeps the yeast population from expanding. While seaweed can be eaten (and enjoyed) raw, you may prefer to use it as an ingredient is a recipe, such as soup. Most raw nuts are allowed, although peanuts are not a good choice. You may want to drink herbal teas or freshly squeezed lemonade to add a bit of variety to your mealtime.

If you want to dress up a salad, you can toss it with olive oil or an apple cider vinegar that remains unpasteurized. You should definitely eat plenty of yogurt; it contains acidophilus, a good bacteria that will help kill off the excess yeast.

By eating the right foods, your yeast infection can be eradicated.

Understanding Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

An abdominal aortic aneurysm is a formation of an outpoutching structure in the aortic artery of the abdomen that is a result of a weakened arterial wall. The aorta is one of the largest arteries found in your body that supplies major organs such as the liver and kidneys. Abdominal aortic aneurysms comprise about 75% of recorded aortic aneurism cases in America.

CAUSES AND RISK FACTORS OF ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURISM

The exact cause of abdominal aortic aneurism (AAA) is unknown. However, there are certain environmental factors that can predispose a person or place you at risk to forming AAA.

Tobacco use has been attributed to formation of AAA. Tobacco has a multitude of chemicals that can harm the body, and also cause sclerotic changes on blood vessels.

Hypertension is another major cause of AAA. If you have hypertension and you do not comply with your medication daily, you are at high risk in forming AAA. Hypertension causes weakening of the arterial walls because of the force of blood running through the arteries. The weakened arterial walls are will eventually give way, forming an outpouching structure that result to an aneurysm.

Vasculitis or an infection the aorta can also cause an aneurysm. The inflammation causes weakness on the arterial walls that may result to aneurism formation.

Diabetes that is uncontrolled can cause several damages in your arteries, and that includes aneurysm.

Atherosclerosis is also a common cause of AAA. The plaque that sticks to your arterial walls will weaken the structure, causing it to give way to the force of blood that passes through the lumen.

Other risk factors include:

o Old age
o Males have more risk in forming AAA than women
o Marfan syndrome
o Family history of aneurysm

Signs and Symptoms of Aortic Aneurysm

Abdominal aortic aneurysm is typically asymptomatic. They are commonly detected through routine abdominal ultrasound that is done for other purposes. The person who is undergoing ultrasound is often surprised to find out that he has an aneurysm for he generally does not experience any signs and symptoms that would indicate the presence of such a condition. An abdominal aortic aneurysm will eventually show clinical manifestations once they are large enough to be palpable. Signs and symptoms often include:

A pulsating abdominal mass

Abdominal pain that radiates to the back

Feeling of fullness even though small quantities of food have been consumed

Nausea and vomiting

Treatment of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Treatment of AAA depends on the size of the aneurysm and the severity of symptoms that it presents. Usually, a small aneurysm is left alone unless it causes a disturbance in the body. There is more risk involved to touching the aneurysm than just leaving it alone, so surgery is only done only when necessary. Surgery is indicated if your aneurysm is larger than 5.5cm, grows at a rate of 1.0 cm per year, and it is causing you pain and discomfort. It is considered a medical emergency if your aneurysm ruptures, prompting the need for immediate surgical intervention to prevent loss of blood.

Open surgery is the traditional method of treating AAA. Your abdomen is cut open to expose the aorta. The affected artery is replaced with a graft that can be of a piece of blood vessel taken from another person, or made from synthetic material.

Stent graft insertion is done by placing a stent along with the graft. It is done by inserting a catheter through your femoral artery (located at your groin area) to reach your aorta. The stent is carefully positioned and the aneurysm is then protected from any pressure that may result to rupture. This surgery is not advised for everyone for it involves going through your arterial network to reach your aorta.

If you are diagnosed with AAA, keep up with your routine check-ups to monitor the size of your aneurysm. Keep yourself active and try to lose weight if you are obese. Your doctor will recommend a series of lifestyle modification that will help you take care of your aneurysm.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Exercise

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

People who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis often find life unbearable. Every movement hurts and the joints, the skin around the joints and even some organs can become inflamed. In some severe cases, the person can be disabled completely. However, there are some things a person can do to alleviate the affects of rheumatoid arthritis so that life can be enjoyable once more.

Exercise

When you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, the last thing you probably want to do is exercise. However, exercising is one of the best things you can do when you suffer from this disease. That’s because exercising will help strengthen your body, and will also strengthen your joints. That’s why exercise is so important for sufferers of this disease.

The Facts

The fact is that exercise can help sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis live longer and it can also help to reduce overall pain. Exercise even has the added benefit of keeping your bones strong. This is important because rheumatoid arthritis sufferers often have problems with thinning bones, especially if they take steroids.

Exercise can also help sufferers maintain muscle strength and regular exercise can help with improved functional ability. That means the sufferer no longer has to rely so much on others in order to get around and do things. Also exercise helps people with rheumatoid arthritis feel better about themselves and that will make them better able to cope with their problems.

Types of Exercises

The types of exercises sufferers can do depend on how severe their case is. Stretching is probably the easiest exercise to engage in. This is where the person stretches and holds various joint and muscle groups for ten to thirty seconds each. This will improve flexibility and will help make your body more limber.

Strength exercises include weight exercises and non-weight exercises like push-ups. These types of exercise will strengthen the muscles and will increase the amount of pain-free movement the person can do.

Conditioning Exercises

There are also conditioning exercises, like aerobic exercises. These exercises improve heart and blood vessels, prevent disability, and will improve a person’s mood and well-being. These exercises can include walking, swimming, biking or using cardio gym machines.

Exercise is one of the best things a person with rheumatoid arthritis can do. Not only will it help to alleviate the pain and improve functionality, but it will help with self esteem and general mood, as well. However, before starting on any exercise program it’s advised that the person make an appointment with their doctor.

See Your Doctor

Before starting on any exercise regimen, any sufferer of the disease should make an appointment with their doctor. Only a doctor can properly assess whether a certain type of exercise is beneficial to the sufferer. There are, for instance, some exercises that a person with this disease should avoid and those include jogging and heavy weight lifting. Other than that, as long as the doctor gives the go ahead, exercise should help improve a sufferer’s quality of life.

Cerebral Aneurysm: Definition, Cause, and Treatment

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

Cerebral aneurysm (a.k.a. brain aneurysm, intracranial aneurysm) an arterial condition where the softened arterial wall lining produces and abnormal out-pouching that has the tendency to rupture. The aneurysm is commonly found along the Circle of Willis, which is the major arterial network of the brain. If this aneurysm would rupture, hemorrhage will result in the subarachnoid space. This will result to several conditions that can lead to death. About one in every 15 people will suffer brain aneurysm in the United States.

There are several conditions that will cause cerebral aneurism in a person. These conditions are:

Hypertension – the increased pressure of the blood causes spasmodic contraction of the muscles of the artery, resulting to a weakened arterial wall.

Atherosclerosis – the plaque that sticks to the arterial wall also cause resultant weakening.

Genetic defects – some genetic defects can result to formation of arteries that have inherent weak walls, predisposing the person to aneurysm formations.

Head trauma – trauma to the head can cause injury to the arteries, weakening the muscles and wall resulting to aneurysm.

A cerebral aneurysm is commonly detected only after rupture. A cerebral aneurism will manifest different signs and symptoms, depending if it has ruptured or not.

An intact cerebral aneurysm will show the following signs and symptoms

Short term memory loss

Mood swings or sudden behavioral changes

Difficulty in making abstract decisions

Difficulty in speech

Loss of balance and coordination

Decreased ability to concentrate

Problems with perception

Peripheral vision difficulties

Fatigue

A ruptured cerebral aneurysm will have the following clinical manifestations that prompt immediate and exact medical attention.

Nausea and vomiting

Blurred vision or diplopia (double vision)

Sensitivity to light

Loss of sensation

Dilated pupils

Periorbital and orbital pain

Painful or stiff neck

Excruciating headache

When an aneurysm is detected, it is often left alone to avoid complications due to cranial surgery. Once the aneurysm ruptures, it is considered a medical emergency that has to be treated immediately to prevent any lasting or permanent harm.

Surgical clipping is done through craniotomy where the aneurysm is exposed and a specific clip is chosen to seal the base of the aneurysm.

Endovascular coiling involves passage of a catheter through femoral artery access (located at the groin), passing to the aorta, ending to the cranial arteries to the aneurysm. Once the catheter reaches the aneurysm, coils made up of platinum are introduced to the aneurysm. These coils seal the aneurysm by initiating a thrombotic reaction that will successfully eliminate the aneurysm if done correctly. Stent-assisted coiling may have to be done for aneurysms that have a broad base.

Each person have different prognosis when it comes to dealing with a ruptured aneurysm. Conditions that may affect the person’s ability to adapt would be age, gender, level of fitness, and neurological condition. If your doctor has given you a diagnosis of an intact aneurysm, you must discuss lifestyle modification changes (i.e. increased physical activity, reduction of any form of stress) and other necessary interventions to help you cope with your condition.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Nodules

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

If you suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis, you know the symptoms usually associated with it. These can be unbearable pain, stiffness in the joints, fatigue, malaise, and more. However, there’s another aspect of rheumatoid arthritis that you may not be aware of. This aspect usually only presents itself to about twenty five percent of patients and it’s called rheumatoid arthritis nodules.

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease where your immune system begins attacking its own tissues. What you’re left with is swollen and inflamed joints, the tissues around those joints could become inflamed and even some of your organs could be affected. With rheumatoid arthritis nodules, the sufferer gets an entire new list of complications that go along with the disease.

Nodules

Rheumatoid arthritis nodules are non-tender subcutaneous nodules that develop around certain pressure points such as your elbow, the back of your forearm and the metacarpophalangeal joint. The nodules are usually the color of your skin and can either feel firm to the touch or they can feel squishy. Usually nodules only occur in chronic active cases of the disease and are typically reserved for those who suffer from joint deformity and serious extra-articular manifestations, such as the lungs and blood vessels. As far as the sizes of the nodules are concerned, they can vary from the size of a pencil eraser to the size of a mothball.

New Complications

If you notice that you’re forming rheumatoid arthritis nodules on your body, you may also notice a new set of complications that go along with them. These can include more pain, limited joint mobility, neuropathy, ulceration, fistula formation as well as infection. The moment you see any nodules forming on your body, you should see your doctor immediately. That way he or she can put you on a treatment program so that you can hopefully find the relief you’re seeking.

Treatments

Your doctor, after examining your rheumatoid arthritis nodules, may schedule a treatment program. In the case of nodules, there are a few treatments available. The nodules can be surgically removed but they tend to come back in as little as a few months. This is especially true if the rheumatoid arthritis nodules were present over an area that has experienced repeated trauma. Your doctor may also try intranodular steroid injections. These will usually reduce the size of the nodule, and thus bring you a little more comfort.

No Treatment?

However, some experts advocate against treatment. That’s because some treatments may lead to infection or they may cause the nodule to return. Only your doctor should make this judgment, though, as he or she will know the best course of action depending on your condition.

Suffering from rheumatoid arthritis is bad enough without having to worry about rheumatoid arthritis nodules. So if you have nodules forming or you’ve had them for some time, make an appointment with your doctor and see if any of the treatment programs available can help you find the comfort you so desperately need.
